Senior Food Baskets

What Is It?

The Harford County Office on Aging has identified many senior citizens in our community who are at-risk of not having enough to eat.  Each month, members and friends of Bel Air United Methodist Church pack and distribute groceries (a protein, non-perishable foods, fresh fruits and vegetables) to 250 needy seniors.

What Do We Do?

On the fourth Thursday of every month, our Team gathers at 9:00 am to pack groceries in McComas Hall.  Our drivers pick up the bags of food between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm and deliver the food to their friends (seniors).  Because of holiday scheduling, the November and December dates will occur earlier in the month.

How Can You Help?

There are many ways in which you can participate in this ministry.  We need packers, drivers, and substitute drivers on a regular basis.  Drivers receive a regular ‘route,’ that is, you will deliver to the same person or couple over a period of time.  This is a great ministry for families to do together.  Substitutes are always needed for times when drivers are ill or out of town.  Packers put together the bags of groceries.

To help with packing, please contact info@baumc.com.  To be a driver or substitute, please contact Leroy Knepper at knepba@aol.com.

We accept donations of canned goods on an on-going basis.  Simply drop off your canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruits, and soups at the collection barrels at the McComas and Armstrong entrances.
